WKLG Inc., a Florida based Sub Chapter S Corporation was founded by
David Freeman and Doug La Rue in 1984. This Corporation has owned
and operated FM Radio Station, WKLG, since December of 1984. The
Station was best known by its air name of STAR 102.1.
In January of 1986 WKLG expanded into the Commercial Photography,
Video and Film business. The first successful product (SONO-MAG) was
produced in February of that Year. It was an instructional film
about operating Commercial Radio Automation systems.
The company continued with experimental films and videos through the
80's and 90's and began to really break out in 2000.
Aside from independent projects, WKLG Inc. has produced videos for
The Arch Diocese of Miami, Miami Dade Community Collage / Miami Dade
Police Academy, The Florida Pioneer Museum, The Homestead City Hall
Museum and The Gold Coast Railroad Museum.
The company co-produced a Music Video in 2006 highlighting performer
Curtis Ballard, which was released in 2006.
WKLG was also the original production company for "Pool, Poker and
Pain" an upcoming Reality TV Show about Professional Gamblers. A
documentary about the making of the show was also co- produced by
WKLG Inc. with Dream Belief Productions and Jerry Taratola. This
documentary was screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2006,
the Chicago Film Festival in 2007, and will be screened at the New
York Film Festival.
The company is also active in the Broadcast Engineering Business
which handles all types of commercial photography, and provides
technical support to "live" theater.
Mr. Doug La Rue recently received a prestigious award from Dade
Heritage Trust, honoring his outstanding individual service in
preserving South Florida’s history through multi-media creativity.
WKLG Inc. Productions continues to make award winning documentaries
and Instructional Films, and will be producing feature films soon.
The company’s scope of interest has expanded to include preserving
South Florida ecology. Some in progress and planned projects include
documentary and educational films covering the following: Naval Air
Station Richmond, Florida East Coast Railroad, Everglades
Restoration, and Sustainable Development.
